Engin Akyürek Career & Filmography
Engin competed in the Turkiye’nin Yildizlari (Turkey’s Star) TV competition two years after graduating from university. His first-place finish in this competition earned him a supporting role in Yabanci Damat (2004–2007), a television series produced by Yagmur and Durul Taylan.
Kader, directed by Zeki Demirkubuz, was his first film (2006). Engin received the “Most Promising Actor” award for his portrayal of Cevat in this film at both the Turkish Cinema Awards and the CASOD (Cagdas Sinema Oyuncular Dernegi) Awards in 2006.
Following that, he played Nizipli Halim in the TV series Karayilan, a story set in Gaziantep during the French occupation (2007–2008). In the TV series Bir Bulut Olsam, written by Meral Okay and directed by Ulas Inanc, Akyürek played Mustafa Bulut, a male psychotic lover.
In Fatmagul’ün Suçu Ne? (2010–12), a TV series about societal problems surrounding a rape victim, he played Kerim Ilgaz, the male passionate lead. Ece Yorenc and Melek Gencoglu wrote the original scenario for Vedat Turkali’s Fatmagul’ün Suçu Ne? for TV Drama, which was produced by Kerem Catay.
He played Tekin in the film Bi Küçük Eylül Meselesi, which was written and directed by Kerem Deren. Bozcaada is the setting for the film (2014). He returned to television in 2014 with the role of Omer in Kara para Aşk, for which he won the best actor at the Seoul International Drama Awards (2015) and was nominated for an International Emmy Award in the Best Actor category.
