O’Brien produced, directed, and starred in a number of short comedy films before starting his acting career, which he uploaded on his personal YouTube account. He was also the drummer for Slow Kids at Play, an indie rock band.
O’Brien got his big break as one of the major characters in MTV’s Teen Wolf, a show partly based on the 1985 picture.
